Author: Trevor Hubbs
Alaska Ice Fishing Event Dec 2022   I need to tell you about your Alaska AFI leader, David May. I cannot thank him enough, and he needs some sort of award or recognition. David May saved my life. I was in a bad place before BHA and AFI. Because of David, I am feeling better than I have in Years. My marriage is better, my home life is better, and my work is better. Thanks to David, I have a new purpose in the Armed Forces Initiative.

OPINION: Non-residents harvest more mule deer bucks than residents in NE Montana

When it comes to hunter crowding and the state of mule deer, non-resident hunting pressure and harvests aren’t the only culprits, but mounting evidence shows they’re a big one. According to an FWP Interoffice Memorandum dated 5/6/2024, the “total Region 6 mule deer harvest in 2023 was estimated at 9,986, 28% above the 26-year average” and — for the first time ever - non-residents harvested more antlered mule deer than Montana residents in Region 6. The memo added that “antlerless ...

OPINION: Montana’s Stream Access – a Legacy Worth Protecting

Forty years ago, the Montana Supreme Court affirmed that the public may use rivers or streams – regardless of who owns the streambed or adjacent land – for recreation purposes. This is now known as Montana’s Stream Access Law, and it’s a beautiful thing. But we can’t take it for granted, as it continues to be challenged and threatened. First, what exactly is the Stream Access Law? What constitutes recreation? And how are rivers and streams defined? Following the Supreme Court’s establishment ...

AFI event Review (Oklahoma Waterfowl 2024)

Author: Trevor Hubbs
Event review from Oklahoma Waterfowl Dual Skills Camp 2024. "Wow is all I can say about this event. I went from thinking I would never harvest a duck to learning more than I ever thought there was to learn about Duck hunting. Jocelyn was incredible to learn from. Her calling, decoys, and teaching style made this fun and easy. I shot my first duck as I parachuted down through naturally flooded timber, and I couldn't be more excited. All the mentors were amazing, and the classroom instruction ...
