Russian River Stream Watch Fencing Project: Longterm Stewardship

Alaska Chapter Backcountry Hunters & Anglers & USFS at the fence site, Sunday June 9th, 2024.    Every year over 150,000 anglers, nearly a quarter of the population of Alaska, fish along the confluence of the Russian and Kenai Rivers. Many of these anglers come from across the country to experience one of the two “red” (sockeye) salmon runs. During peak season the banks of the river look more like a theme park than a wild Alaskan river.   In the past, this ease of access led to habitat ...

Wisconsin BHA Signs on to Protect Prairie Chicken Habitat From Solar Farm Project

The Wisconsin Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers has signed on to a letter that addresses concerns around the Vista Sand Solar Project, which if allowed, would be the largest solar farm in Wisconsin, and is right in the heart of the habitat for an iconic upland bird species.  The greater prairie chicken was once common in southern and western Wisconsin, but their population has declined due to loss of grassland habitat driven by agriculture, resource extraction, and urban sprawl. Author: New York BHA
On June 14, 2024 The New York Chapter submitted a comment to NY Department of Environmental Conservation in regards to OGC-9 Public Rights to Navigation and Fishing.  Access to some streams and rivers in NY have been contested over the years as to who has the right to navigate or fish stretches of these rivers.  The original draft of the policy was published in 1991 and since then has been updated a few times.  The latest update appears to have NYDEC stepping away from a prescriptive ...

This is an important part of the state for our chapter as Bloomington sits on the edge of the Hoosier National Forest, the largest body of public land in Indiana. It has also been the site of a battle over forest management. Many environmental groups call ...

Author: Trevor Hubbs
Event Review 2023 New England Waterfowl   "I work in emergency services. Throughout my military career and the past six months at work, I have been involved in a series of traumatic events that have been affecting my ability to deal with life.
