AFI Event Review (Bob Marshall Wilderness 2022)

Author: Trevor Hubbs
Event review of Bob Marshall Wilderness Dual Skills Camp July 2022.   I had heard the term wilderness before, but I didn't fully appreciate what it meant until I spent a week hiking over 70 miles through the Bob Marshall wilderness doing trail maintenance with BHA's Armed Forces initiative. This is an amazing part of the country, and I am so thankful to the Armed Forces Initiative for offering me a chance to go. Having seen the Bob Marshall it's so much easier for me to explain to folks why ...

Hunting Colorado’s Mountain Merriam’s (with The Colonel & The Fox) and Struttin’ & Cluckin’ at Rendezvous

Author: David Lien
Among hunter-conservationists the story of the decimation of wildlands and wildlife during the 1700s-1800s followed by a remarkable recovery during the 1900s-2000s is well known. OPINION: Montana BHA raffle raises the bar, sets record amount for mule deer conservation

The opportunity to hunt shouldn’t just be for the wealthy. So why should Montana’s special, statewide tags be any different? This was our pitch to the Fish & Wildlife Commission last summer. We argued there was a better, more equitable way than auctions to raise funds for conservation efforts: a raffle. Montana offers five highly prized statewide tags: bighorn sheep, elk, mountain goat, mule deer, and Shiras moose. They’re valid for any open season, any legal weapon, and anywhere in the ...

Local Outdoorsmen Rally to Save the Cutoff

Author: Ryan Buege
In early 2022, a private landowner illegally blocked access to a popular public hunting and fishing destination in East Texas known locally as “The Cutoff”. A group of local sportsmen who hunt and fish there have challenged the move in court, and Texas BHA is rallying behind them. The Cutoff, also called Creslenn Lake, spans 12 miles along the boundary for Navarro and Henderson Counties. Originally part of the Trinity River, the waterway was separated from its main channel by a levee ...

Review from a participant at our 2022 Boundary Waters Event. September 2022   "I cannot thank you enough for taking me out here with you. After 20 years in the Army and multiple combat deployments, I just got a little lost since I got out."   "Six months ago, I was sitting on my couch with a pistol and decided I was ready to go.
