Colorado Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Regional Director Recognized as BHA’s Member of the Month

thumbnail.jpgColorado Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA) Southeast Regional Director, Ty Woodward, was recognized as BHA’s Member of the Month for August 2019. BHA’s Backcountry Beat newsletter detailed some of Ty’s contributions to protecting and perpetuating our great public lands estate and wild public lands, waters and wildlife.

“Ty Woodward, Southeast regional director for the Colorado chapter, has been a mainstay for our members and leadership team for some time. His steady leadership, dedication and insights have helped guide the chapter down a path that has fostered a strong BHA presence in the SE region of the state. Ty has led numerous boots on the ground projects and events and has represented BHA with agency decision makers, partners and members alike.”[1]

“One of Ty’s most notable accomplishments is the team he has built and the culture that he has fostered in the SE region. It is no coincidence that this team just hosted one of the Colorado Chapter’s most successful events to date, a Campfire Storytelling event featuring voices from the Armed Forces Community. Ty has helped identify leaders, partners and businesses that have helped advance BHA’s mission. In more ways than one, Ty has taken the growth of the chapter in the SE region on his shoulders and carried it forward. Congratulations, Ty, and thank you for the job well done.”[2]

“Ty started Colorado BHA’s Southeast Group, along with Ben Montgomery, during July 2017. From the get-go, they have led by example and personified the ass-kickery that BHA is known for nationwide and continent-wide,” said Colorado BHA Co-Chair, David Lien (a former U.S. Air Force officer). “They’ve also groomed and recruited additional Group leaders, including John Barkowski, Brad Athmer, Kyle Vistuba and Drew Trujillo. We need many more like them!”

“I am excited for the future of BHA and my personal involvement. The more I invest in the organization the more I get out of it,” Ty said. “I am continually finding that there are more and more like-minded hunters and anglers who also call BHA home.”[3] Ty was born and raised in Lamar, Colorado. He first heard about BHA through the Steven Rinella MeatEater podcasts. Ty now lives in Florissant, Colorado.

Founded by Mike Beagle, a former U.S. Army field artillery officer, and formed around an Oregon campfire, in 2004, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is the sportsmen’s voice for our nation’s wild public lands, waters and wildlife. With some 37,000 members spread out across all 50 states and 13 Canadian provinces and territories—including chapters in 45 states, two Canadian provinces and one territory, and Washington, D.C.—BHA brings an authentic, informed, boots-on-the-ground voice to the conservation of public lands. Since the Colorado BHA chapter was founded by David Petersen (a former U.S. Marine Corps helicopter pilot) in 2005 (the first official BHA chapter), they’ve grown their boots-on-the-ground presence to over 2,700 dedicated hunters and anglers.[4]
