Corner Crossing is Not a Crime...Right?

Author: Devin O'Dea

Corner Crossing is Not a Crime…Right?

Wyoming State legislators just advanced a “Corner Crossing Clarification” bill in the House by a 32-28 vote, and it is now headed to the Senate where it may face additional headwinds and potential amendments. The legislation seeks to codify and decriminalize corner crossing in Wyoming’s criminal code in the wake of the landmark 10th Circuit Court decision that affirmed what we believed to be true all along–corner crossing between public land parcels is not a crime.

That’s a good thing, right? So why hasn’t BHA come out in support? Bear with us as we field dress this debate down to the bone.

2025 BHA Habitat Stewardship Impact Report

At Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, conservation means speaking up for public lands and waters and showing up to care for them firsthand.
In 2025, BHA worked alongside federal, state, tribal, and local partners nationwide to expand workforce capacity, accelerate project timelines, and deliver measurable conservation outcomes across diverse landscapes. From grasslands and sagebrush steppe to forests, rivers, and coastal wetlands, BHA improved the health and resilience of fish and wildlife habitat on public lands and waters and helped enhance access to those places for current and future generations of hunters, anglers, and outdoor recreationists

The Tongass: A Truly Wild Place I Call Home

The Tongass National Forest is the largest National Forest in the United States, possessing some of the most unique backcountry opportunities in the country. The Tongass is surrounded by Alaska’s Inside Passage, whose cold waters are fed by the various glaciers that wind their way through the towering mountains which characterize the this special temperate rainforest. These cold waters support some of the densest biomass anywhere in the world, supporting a variety of life from salmon and halibut to whales and sea ducks. The Tongass is a place I feel honored to call my home.
