Last year’s Rally for the Rio Grande del Norte was such a success that we couldn’t wait to do it again. Over 150 people came to celebrate the National Monument and its vast wealth of recreational opportunities. This year is going to be even better.
Public lands are vital to New Mexicans way of life. They provide us with adventure and solace, they support our local communities, they are the foundation of our outdoor recreation economy, and they are critical to supporting healthy wildlife populations.

We are bringing public land owners from across the state to our biggest event of the year. Talented local musicians, amazing raffles, sponsor booths, special guests, and camping, food and beer are all on tap for this event.
This event isn't just about having a great time. Participants and sponsors will work with agency partners to remove barbed wire fence to improve habitat connectivity for wildlife on the National Monument. Join us and let's demonstrate the power of the public lands community and our commitment to our wildlife resources.
Live Music
This year we have two bands on tap for the evening. Music starts at 5:00 pm.

The songs of Glorieta Pines are inspired by the happenings of the world as seen through the lens of the American Southwest.
The quartet, comprised of Brian Nelson (guitars, percussion), Lindsay Taylor (mandolin, tenor guitar, flutes, fiddle), Karina Wilson (fiddle), and Todd Lovato (bass) combines insightful songwriting, layered arrangements and tight vocal harmonies, achieving a unique blend of indie-acoustic music.

The sky is vast, and the views stretch wide in the high desert of New Mexico. Just minutes outside of town, you can lose yourself in canyons and arroyos where rivers carve channels through petrified sand dunes and basalt cliffs. Elk and bighorn sheep dot alpine mountainsides. It’s a land of solitude, held within an immense wilderness.
These places thread their way through Bard Edrington’s songwriting. True to his name, Bard is first and foremost a storyteller, rooted in a timeless tradition—winter nights, dying embers, and chance gatherings where stories are passed hand to hand. He spends his days on public lands exploring canyons, tracking animals, and removing old fencing to improve wildlife habitat. Those days in the wild surface in his songs: rambling rivers, sudden flash floods, pronghorn dodging lightning as thunderstorms dance across the desert.
Grounded in folk and country, Bard & the Blackbirds will have your feet tapping and your mind drifting to distant landscapes. This tour marks the first with the full Blackbirds band. Karina Wilson’s mesmerizing violin and vocals shimmer with empathy for each unfolding tale. Bassist Sarah Ferrell’s voice runs deep and steady, like the cliffs along the Rio Grande. East Texas native Jim Palmer brings his signature “flat tire” groove, effortlessly turning any pub into a honky-tonk. What awaits is an evening of honest, emotional storytelling delivered by a tight, deeply talented band.
Sunday Stewardship
On Sunday July 26, join BHA Habitat Stewardship Coordinator Eldon Aguilar as he leads a group of volunteers to remove fencing on the National Monument. Fencing is one of the largest barriers to wildlife's movement across the landscape. It prevents animals from accessing better habitat and water resulting in entanglement, mortality, and resource depletion. By removing fencing we are improving habitat connectivity across thousands of acres of land with a simple tool.
