Colorado Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Appoint Jim McGannon To Colorado Wildlife & Transportation Alliance Liaison Position

The Colorado chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers recently appointed Jim McGannon to serve as their Colorado Wildlife & Transportation Alliance Liaison.

Jim was born in North Dakota and raised in several northern tier states. “I am a degreed forester from the University of Minnesota. I also have my master’s from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs,” he said. “I spent most of my life in Colorado Springs as the City Forester. I am currently, and have been since the 1980s, a consulting arborist and forester in mainly the greater Denver area. However, I go wherever I am needed.”

He's also a lifelong outdoorsman and conservationist who supports organizations like Pheasants Forever (Life Member), Ducks Unlimited, Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, Colorado Mt. Club, Conservation Colorado, Trout Unlimited (Life Member), local and regional land trusts, and many more.

“I travel all over the state and beyond to hunt, fish, backpack, raft, speak, and volunteer,” he added. “In addition, I volunteer hundreds of hours each year to all the organizations I support. One of the main reasons I support organizations like BHA, is because of the great lobbying efforts in our legislatures and Congress. I especially am impressed with the tremendous growth in membership of BHA across the continent. It is very important to me to support organizations like BHA. I have volunteered with BHA for things like the annual Sportsman’s Expo. I believe it incumbent upon all sportsmen and women to be involved in promotion of good stewardship of our resources. BHA gets an A+ from me on that point.”

Jim lives south of Parker in Douglas County. “I lived in Colorado Springs from 1981 to 2010, where I raised 2 (now adult) kids,” he said. “They both live in Denver and their mom lives in Monument. I am a lifelong volunteer as well as my professional life as a forester/arborist. I have spent a good portion of my life in scouting. My son and I are both Eagle Scouts.”
