Full Curl: How to ID a Legal Dall Sheep Ram in Alaska

Join us for a deep dive into one of Alaska’s most iconic big game species: Dall sheep with ADF&G Wildlife Biologist, Brad Wendling

This talk will explore how Alaska manages sheep populations through a combination of biological science, harvest regulations, and long- standing conservation principles. From understanding what defines a “legal ram” to how population health, weather, and predation influence management decisions, we’ll break down the framework that guides sheep hunting across the state.

Dall sheep inhabit some of Alaska’s most rugged alpine terrain, where low reproductive rates and environmental pressures make populations especially sensitive to change. Because of this, regulations are designed to ensure long-term sustainability—often limiting harvest to mature rams and requiring careful judgment in the field.

Whether you’re a seasoned sheep hunter, hoping to draw your first tag, or simply interested in how Alaska manages wildlife in challenging environments, this talk will provide practical insight into the science, policy, and responsibility behind sheep hunting in Alaska.

This is a ticketed event as space is limited. Due to the popularity of our last Dall Sheep talk, we are asking folks to purchase their spot for $10, which will include a raffle ticket for a metal print of a Dall Sheep photo from another generous sponsor of the Alaska Chapter of BHA  - Mark Lindberg Photography
