Join the Minnesota BHA Chapter for a Learn-to-Hunt webinar March 25th from 6PM-9PM and get ready for the kings of spring!

This virtual Learn to Hunt Turkey event is an online BHA educational class designed to equip aspiring and novice hunters with the knowledge, confidence, and ethical foundation needed to pursue wild turkeys on public land. Hosted via Zoom, this three‑hour evening session removes barriers to entry by making quality hunting education accessible from anywhere. Whether you’re brand new to hunting or looking to add turkey to your repertoire, this class provides a comprehensive introduction to the sport.

The evening will give an overview of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, grounding participants in the principles that make public‑land hunting possible and the role hunters play in funding habitat and wildlife management. From there, the class moves into turkey biology—covering species identification, behavior, habitat preferences, vocalizations, and seasonal patterns that every turkey hunter needs to understand.

A dedicated segment on hunter safety will cover obtaining a hunter safety certificate, safe shot selection, and field awareness specific to turkey hunting scenarios. Participants will also receive a thorough walkthrough of current rules and regulations, including licensing requirements, season dates, legal shooting hours, bag limits, and tagging procedures—ensuring everyone is prepared to hunt legally and responsibly.

The class will then shift to practical field skills, beginning with gear such as turkey calls, scouting techniques such as reading signs, locating roost sites, and using maps and aerial imagery to identify productive areas. Finally, participants will learn how to navigate public land—including how to find and access state and federal hunting lands, use tools like onX, understand land boundaries, and plan a hunt on ground that’s open to everyone.

By combining conservation education with hands-on hunting knowledge, the Learn to Hunt Turkey class reflects BHA’s mission to connect people with public lands through ethical, informed outdoor recreation. It’s a low‑pressure, community‑driven evening built to welcome new hunters into the fold and strengthen our shared commitment to wild places and fair‑chase hunting.
