Get fired up for spring gobbler season with Kentucky Backcountry Hunters & Anglers at this year’s turkey season–themed pint night on April 1st starting at 6pm at 3rd Turn – Oldham Gardens. This is no April fools joke! This lively evening will bring together hunters, conservationists, and outdoor enthusiasts to celebrate one of Kentucky’s most anticipated seasons in a relaxed, welcoming brewery setting. Whether you’re a seasoned turkey hunter or brand new to chasing longbeards, this event is designed to be both educational and a whole lot of fun! This year's event includes hands on wing bone call making, turkey calling lessons, raffles, recipes and door prizes!
The centerpiece of the night will be a hands-on demonstration and discussion on how to make traditional wing bone turkey calls from our good friend Paul Campbell from turkeyseason.com. We will have wing bones on hand from domestic turkey so that everyone can have an opportunity to learn how to make these incredible and iconic calls. Learn about the history behind this time-honored craft and the techniques that turn a harvested bird into a meaningful, functional keepsake for the woods. Attendees will gain insight into how these classic calls are built, tuned, and used to mimic the yelps and kee-kees that bring spring toms into range.
The evening will also feature turkey calling instruction and tips from KYBHA state sponsor Mark Six of Greens Run Calls, who will share practical advice to help you sharpen your skills before opening day. If you want an opportunity to purchase one of Mark’s signature hand crafted turkey calls, this event will be a great opportunity for that as well. Turkey call door prizes will be given away throughout the event, and attendees can enter a raffle for an incredible Nukem turkey hunter package from Nukem Blinds!
The event doesn’t stop there though! We will also have wild turkey recipes and samples prepared by our own wild game chef, Lee Mayfield. Lee will be showcasing creative and delicious ways to put your harvest on the table. You’ll have the opportunity to pick up ideas that make the most of your bird this spring and celebrate the full hunting experience.
This will be a casual, fun way to meet fellow hunters and anglers, swap stories and learn about BHA and our mission to conserve public lands and waters. BHA members advocate for public hunting and fishing and we work to maintain and improve access to places to hunt and fish. We also speak up for wildlife, guided by the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Finally, we believe in and advocate for fair chase in pursuit of fish and game. If those ideals resonate with you, please come join us to learn more and maybe become part of BHA. This event is open to all and we encourage you to invite all your friends also.
