Backcountry Beat, June 2023

Friend —
June in Montana has been one of the wettest I can remember. Last year, I was on my sabbatical and floating my home water. This year I've been doing more travelling for Cid's and Colin’s soccer games, but I've been thinking about something similar, which is how important you are - you, the members of the BHA community - who together make up an organization I'm proud to be part of.
Right now, BHA members all across North America are doing amazing work. Just this week, our New England Chapter delivered a signature win for the East in codifying the public's right to access Rhode Island's shoreline, legislation that ultimately was signed by the governor. That's a genuine, bona fide public access win!
This is a big deal for public access to shorelines – while Rhode Island is the smallest state in our union, it has 400 miles of coast. The chapter is already looking at utilizing the momentum from this win to next steps elsewhere. What fills my bucket and makes me most proud of BHA is what this accomplishment signifies for grassroots advocacy, for the voices and actions of individuals like you. It's who we are and what we do. The Rhode Island shoreline access bill was 100 percent conceived of, strategized and led by volunteers.
Help us continue to engage in grassroots advocacy by donating today. Continue to raise your voice in the name of public access and public lands and waters at BHA's action center. Become a member, if you're not one already, and join a community of public lands warriors who together are working hard to conserve the backcountry places and opportunities that are crucial to who we are as hunters and anglers.
Onward and Upward!
