The Armed Forces Initiative is the BHA program focused on creating conservationists within the military community. Washington and Idaho AFI is hosting a multi-day dual skills turkey camp in the picturesque Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. This event is geared towards members of the military community who have never pursued the almighty Gobbler, and are up for the challenge that comes with blowing through contour lines and burning boot leather over the course of a couple long days.
This is a dual-skills camp where attendees will be mentored through a hunting experience from the planning phase through the post-harvest meal prep. BHA Mentors will host attendees in the field talking through the ins and outs of turkey hunting. The event will start with all attendees gathering together to pattern shotguns before going afield. We will then head into camp and kick off the adventure. Hunting success and conditions may find us hitting the water in boats for walleye and trout, so plan on having a fishing license in addition to that turkey tag!
Attendees can expect to learn:
turkey biology,
habitat,
identification,
turkey calling,
scouting,
and locating tactics
how to clean and process a wild turkey
history of public lands and waters
North American model of wildlife conservation
When is it:
2 May 1PM - 5 May 12PM
Where is it:
Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area
Washington State
