WA BHA is partnering with Bureau of Land Management and Central WA University to do an Earth Day Cleanup at two recreation sites in the Yakima River Canyon. Below are the activities BHA volunteers can provide at each site:
Big Pines:
- Weed burning (students will gather Russian Thistle, BHA would feed into burn unit)
- Fill undercut boat ramp platform: undercut needs to be packed and tamped with gravel, then retaining blocks fitted in
Umtanum:
- Leading trail brushing crew across river
- Install campsite numbered posts in new area at Lower Umtanum
Based on described activities, choose to meet at 9 am either Big Pines Recreation Site (Hwy 821 near milepost 9 - 46.792999, -120.456054) and Umtanum Creek Recreation Site (Hwy 821 near milepost 17 - 46.855196, -120.482673). Park available in lots at each site.
Bring long sleeve shirts, work gloves, and water.
