University of Minnesota Fosters Stewardship Values in New Anglers

The University of Minnesota Backcountry Hunters & Anglers club is happy to announce the learn-to-fish event of fall of 2022 was a success! We coordinated a learn-to-fish event with the Fisheries Wildlife and Conservation Biology club here at the University of Minnesota. At this event, we showed students the art of river fishing and the importance of stewardship. While students learned to jig and cast down by the bank of the Mississippi River, they also got the opportunity to speak with Minnesota fishing and conservation professionals from the MN Department of Natural Resource and Minnesota Conservation Federation. When the students felt all fished out, they were more than welcome to enjoy burgers or burnt hot dogs (courtesy of chef Bellazzini) and try to beat our resident champion, Dalton Damon, at a game of bags!

We had a great day talking about conservation with these like-minded individuals and showing fresh faces the beauty and value of the great outdoors. From surprisingly large carp to suckers and rock bass, students got to see an eclectic mix of river fish life. Participants were also encouraged to pack out trash while fishing in an effort to leave the place better than we found it.

Thank you for all those that were gracious enough to make this happen and all those that support our group both financially and in other ways! Without your support, the collegiate chapters across the country wouldn’t be able to do the things we do.
