Grab your gloves! The weekend of June 29th-30th we are going to remove some bad fencing from the beautiful Spotted Dog WMA near Deer Lodge. This WMA was previously a working cattle ranch and has an abundance of old unneeded barbed wire fencing. Volunteers will work to remove as much of this fencing as possible on Saturday to make Spotted Dog even better for the elk, mule deer, whitetail, moose and antelope that call this special place home during the area's tough winters.
This project will take place in the restoration area at the old Pauly Ranch. BHA will provide tools, gloves, and lunch on Saturday. Volunteers are welcome to camp nearby Friday and/or Saturday night or show up bright and early Saturday morning. We will meet at the project site at 7:30am Saturday morning for an introduction to the project and safety debrief then work until 4pm.
Volunteers will need to bring all other meals, snacks and water, as well as camping gear. Please bring gloves and safety glasses if you have them and know they fit, and any wire cutters, saws, and fence spoolers you may have! BHA will have extra gloves and safety glasses on hand and provide some tools. This event is not dog friendly, but older kids are welcome as long as they are capable of handling tools and cutting strands of barbed wire that are potentially dangerous.
RSVPS are required for this event so we can plan meals and camping space. Detailed directions to the camping spot will follow in email closer to event date.
Volunteers will receive a free dehydrated meal from our state-based corporate partner, Gastro Gnome.
Due to the nature of the work, children and dogs are not allowed.
*Please only RSVP if you are serious about attending. RSVP numbers help us prepare appropriate meals, tools, and work and no-shows cost us valuable time and effort. However, we understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, so we ask that you update your RSVP accordingly.
