Join Idaho BHA for a weekend of stewardship work assisting Idaho Falls BLM with fence removal and bitterbrush planting on Pine Creek Bench. This land was purchased with funds from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The land has historically been farmed, put into the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and later purchased by the BLM.The goal of this 3 phase, multi-year project is to transition some parts of Pine Creek Bench back to native grasses, shrubs, and trees to benefit big game transition and winter habitat. We will be working with the BLM on Phase 3 of the project, planting bitterbrush seedlings in winter range and removing fencing obstacles to migrating ungulates. Thank you to North Fork Native Plants for donating the plants we will be putting in the ground!
We will meet at 8am Saturday morning at (43.5167200, -111.4239000) for a brief introduction and safety brief and work until 5pm. Volunteers are welcome to camp at nearby dispersed camping sites along the Snake River Friday and Saturday night or show up bright and early. We'll meet back up 8am Sunday (same location) and wrap up around work around noon.
Volunteers should bring: Hiking boots, work gloves, snacks/water, eye protection, clothing layers for a full day outside (anticipate rain, long sleeves are encouraged to protect against sun and barbed wire),
