Indiana BHA Grassroot Impact at J.E. Roush Lake FWA

Author: Indiana BHA
The Indiana BHA Chapter had a great day of stewardship at J.E Roush Lake Fish and Wildlife Area in Huntington on Saturday, 1/27.  We had 22 awesome volunteers show up to assemble 24 wood duck boxes for this popular piece of public land! Thanks to such a great turn out, we quickly got ahead of schedule with box construction and had time to get out and place four of these boxes around one of the property ponds. Volunteers also had time to re-focus efforts towards picking up trash from key ...

TN BHA joins TWRA for Wood Duck Boxes

The Tennessee BHA Chapter had an awesome turnout this past Saturday January 14th, at the Wood Duck Box build event with the TWRA on the Percy Priest WMA. As soon as we arrived, Mark Vance with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) went over what we would be doing that day, and the importance of the wood duck boxes. He informed us that wood ducks use these man-made boxes that replicate hollowed nests in standing trees to lay eggs, and why it is important to have several nest sites ...

Calls, Quacks, and Barbed Wire Hacks

Shining headlamps over the lake, the beams are refracted in a million different directions in the dense fog. The marsh bottom isn't as boot sucking mud as it has been in the past years, so decoy setup goes fairly quickly. Shooting time starts as I am getting to know my hunting partner better.  This is the first time we have shared a blind. Jacob Young and I met about a month previous, when he, as the president of the University of Idaho BHA collegiate chapter, had arranged a duck call ...

Edwards Creek Project Update

On October 21, BHA Nevada Chapter volunteers assisted NDOW staff in a vital project to restore fencing around the springs that feed Edwards Creek, which provides water and critical riparian habitat for the northeast area of Nevada's Desatoya Mountains. The project involved removing old posts and barbwire, and constructing 3-rail Bison fencing around the site, which still contained legacy chokecherry, alders, and native brush. The steel Bison fence will be more durable and allow for the ...
