Virginia Should Commit to Wildlife Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Funding

Unfortunately, both Virginia HB 2025: Wildlife Corridors or Crossings; Action Plan and Programs and Virginia HB 2059: Virginia’s Great Outdoors Act were tabled at the start of the legislative session. This occurred in the House Appropriations Committee (HAC) and means we won’t see any movement on them this year. However, there are still opportunities this year to affect our public lands and waters. There are budget amendments that directly align with our mission at Backcountry Hunters & ...

February 2025 with Alaska BHA - Newsletter

Author: Anonym
Alaska -- We made it through January, which was filled with Board of Game meetings, a few great Pint Nights, and a lot of news about public lands conservation in Alaska. Not all of this news bodes well for the iconic Alaskan wildlife we love to pursue, which require large, expansive, unfragmented landscapes to thrive. Salmon and other unique fish species, like sheefish, that we love to hook on our lines and enjoy over a fire or yearround from our freezers also require ...

Juneau Mountain Rescue

Juneau Mountain Rescue      On January 29, the Alaska Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA) hosted a pint night at Forbidden Peak Brewery in Juneau, Alaska. BHA invited Juneau Mountain Rescue (JMR) to give a presentation on the crucially important work they do for Juneau and the surrounding areas. JMR drove this point home through their presentation and Q&A session. A BHA Gerber hatchet was raffled off to raise funds for Alaska BHA, which ended up being won by a member of ...

While there are many mission critical bills currently in front of BHA's chapters, one ...

Celebrating Backcountry Hunters & Anglers with Vibrissa Beer

Yesterday reminded me once again why I love being a member of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers. Every year, we hold our annual chapter board meeting for the Mid-Atlantic Chapter, bringing everyone together in person. Given that our chapter encompasses Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Delaware, it’s not always easy for us to gather for in-person events. This meeting is always a special occasion because it allows us to connect face-to-face. This gathering allows us to sit down and ...

BHA Defends Coyote Hunting and Commission Processes in CA

Next week, the California Fish & Game Commission will consider acting on a recommendation by the Wildlife Resources Committee (WRC) that C.C.R. § 472 be amended to remove coyotes. CA BHA opposes any restriction on hunting in the state that does not include appropriate scientific rationale. Additionally, the actions of the WRC are inconsistent with with the Commission's mandate to provide appropriate public notice and details of the Commission agenda. BHA has partnered with several other ...

Rhode Island BHA 2025 Policy Priorities

In January Rhode Island’s General Assembly convened to begin their 2025 legislative session. BHA’s Rhode Island team has moved the needle on our top policy priorities in recent years – we worked to enact legislation protecting shoreline access in 2023 and prohibiting captive hunting & wildlife importation in 2024 - and we have consistently advocated for Rhode Island’s public lands, waters and wildlife in RI’s legislative and regulatory arenas. Below you will find the Rhode Island team’s top ...
