Arkansas' Pine Tree Research Station Will Stay Open to Public Hunting

A major victory for public lands hunting access was notched last week in the Arkansas Capitol as the attempted sale of the Pine Tree Research Station was closed down. "To put it succinctly, several different parties came together with an interest in seeing that the Pine Tree property remained open for public enjoyment," said James Brandenburg, a leader of the Arkansas chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers. TPWD Seeks Input on Proposed Oyster Closures

Author: Shane Bonnot
At its March 23-24 meeting, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will consider prohibiting the harvest of oysters in Carlos Bay, Mesquite Bay, and Ayres Bay. The closure to oyster harvest would protect ecologically sensitive and unique oyster habitat from the negative biological impacts of increased harvest pressure. Per TPWD, the ecological importance and sensitivity of these oyster reefs coupled with the historically high harvest pressure and highly variable oyster relative abundance ...

Montana elk season proposal approved to the disappointment of many

Author: Montana BHA
Ending a chaotic public process lasting six months, the Fish, Wildlife & Parks commission voted in favor of several big changes to Montana’s elk and deer seasons, including limiting hunters to their first choice for elk bull permits. On Friday, after the commission proposed amendments to FWP’s elk season proposal, a notable thing happened during public comment: Representatives of hunters, outfitters and rich landowners – normally adversaries when it comes to elk – all called for the ...

Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission adopts new elk hunting regulations — with amendments

Author: Montana BHA
Hunters will have new regulations for taking elk in the 2022-23 seasons, but the changes won’t be as dramatic as earlier proposed with an amended and unanimously approved update Friday by the Fish and Wildlife Commission. Earlier, the proposed regulations had elicited outrage by many hunters, and Friday, many members of the public on all sides of the aisle said the process had created so much confusion, they wanted the update tossed out and a return to the 2020-2021 regs. Instead, ...
