Montana BHA responds to 2022/23 season-setting regulations

Author: Montana BHA
Here's a recap on some of the statewide season-setting proposals that were decided on during last week's Fish & Wildlife Commission meeting. Overall, we were pleased with some of the discussions at the meeting, the acknowledgement that the process was broken, that the proposals were confusing and ever-changing, and that it was critically important that we get this right. While many different interests were represented on Friday, nearly all parties in the room agreed on one thing: that the ...

Senate Good Samaritan Bill Result of Decades of Work

In August of 2015, an Environmental Protection Agency mine cleanup crew made a terrible mistake. As the crew worked to try and reduce the amount of polluted wastewater entering the Animas River watershed from the abandoned Gold King Mine, it accidentally triggered a huge release of heavy metals-tainted wastewater.   In a matter of hours, the river, a trophy trout stream as it runs through the city of Durango, was flowing bright orange. While the impact was short-lived, and, thankfully, ...

Texas BHA Member Lands World Record Catfish

Author: Jake Walker
Austin-area BHA member Ben Christensen officially had his name put in the record books this month for catching a 31-pound, 8 ounce blue catfish on the Pedernales River last October. He landed it after a 40-minute fight with 4-weight fly tackle on a 12-pound tippet, with a custom fly tied by his son. The record was certified by the International Game Fish Association for the body of water where the fish was caught.   Christensen is a seventh-generation Texas, a hunting guide, rancher, and ...

Protect the Yanahli WMA

Public wildlife management areas (WMAs) managed by the state agency are a valuable asset to Tennesseans and Tennessee’s rural economies, and Yanahli is one of the state’s most popular. Hunters and anglers are concerned that should this become law, these properties will be diverted to other uses not compatible with hunting and angling, or will be poorly managed. H.B. 1674 by Rep. Cepicky, and S.B. 1839 by Senator Hensley, if passed, will transfer ownership of the 12,800-acre Yanahli ...
