event_description: Join the Kentucky BHA Chapter for a work day at the Cape Hills Unit of Sloughs WMA on August 26th beginning at 9am.This great stewardship effort will be in conjunction with Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife staff where we will be conducting a hack & squirt project to remove mid-story vegetation at the northern end of the unit. Removal of the midstory will allow filtered light down to the forest floor, which is ideal lighting conditions for oak and hickory regeneration. Our work will mimic natural disturbance to assure the continuation of these hard mast producers.  This will allow them to remain dominant in the forest along with promoting the growth of other herbaceous species for browsing, and newly created habitat for wildlife. We will meet at the WMA office, 9956 KY-268, Corydon, KY,  and proceed to the work site from there. Please bring along plenty to drink, some snacks, and wear the appropriate clothing! This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference on some Kentucky public lands!!
