The newest issue of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers’ magazine is available today
MISSOULA, Mont. – The summer issue of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers’ quarterly magazine, Backcountry Journal, is hitting mailboxes across the continent. This issue features a new and enhanced binding and expanded 84 pages of stories, news and photographs of hunting and fishing North America’s public lands and waters. Here’s a highlight reel:
Dodging the Bullet: Backcountry Journal founding editor and longtime contributor Ben Long details the history of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the fight for its reauthorization, how BHA’s efforts paid off with permanent reauthorization, and the work that is yet to be done.
Digital Scouting 101: BHA’s California/Nevada Chapter Coordinator Russell Kuhlman tells how to scout for the fall hunting season from your home computer, including identifying a quality hunting unit, using scientific journals, pinpointing top spots within the unit and preparing for the hunt.
Antelope Jackrabbit Tacos: Learn how to prepare the winning dish from BHA’s 2019 Wild Game Cookoff courtesy of the Arizona chapter. Antelope jackrabbit tacos beat a stiff lineup of competition and wowed the celebrity judges. Don’t miss your chance to try this recipe. (Visit our Field to Table blog for more!)
Chapter In-Depths: BHA chapters across North America are hard at work conserving our wild public lands, waters and wildlife. Read about BHA New England’s efforts to fight captive hunting, BHA Montana’s legislative successes and BHA Michigan’s accomplishments that won chapter of the year.
The Hunting Philosopher: Conservation scholar Chris Madson relates the story of Aldo’s Leopold’s evolution as a hunter-conservationist. This is a must read for every sportsman and woman!
