event_description: Hunters of Color is hosting a 1-hour training for our student leaders and members. Any BHA members and volunteers are welcome to join.HOC is based out of Portland, Oregon and is dedicated to fostering a more equitable and inclusive community for hunters. HOC was founded by three friends, Jimmy Flatt, Thomas Tyner, and Lydia Parker in August of 2020, with the goal of making "The Outdoors for Everyone." The trio saw a need for more inclusivity and equity in the hunting community based on their personal experiences."We need everyone we can get to help fund conservation, and to keep our hunting traditions alive. We believe it is the responsibility of conservation and hunting organizations to help dismantle barriers to entry for BIPOC even when it is uncomfortable. Or else, as demographics shift rapidly, the North American conservation model will crumble. As hunters, we know how to do uncomfortable things. We have a big mountain to climb til we reach racial equity in hunting, but together, we know we can do anything. So lace up your boots and lets get to climbing!"BHAs mission overlaps with many facets of HOCs work. In our goal to increase access to and opportunity on public lands and waters, there is a need to be mindful of the current atmosphere and work to make hunting and angling more inclusive. Not only does this open the doors to more people who will uphold our hunting and angling heritage, but it makes our collective voice for wild public lands, waters, and wildlife a louder one.Sign up below and a Zoom link will be sent to you 2 hours prior to the event start.
