AFI Holloman: Tree Shelter Recovery Day โ Bonito Lake / Anan Canyon, NM
Event Start Date: 10/25/2026 10:00 AM
Event End Date: 10/25/2026 4:00 PM
Timezone: MDT
Join the Holloman Armed Forces Initiative for a day of forest restoration, outdoor recreation, and camaraderie in the mountains outside Ruidoso, New Mexico.
We'll hike approximately 1.5 miles into the forest to collect and remove old tree shelters left behind from a previous forest restoration project — protective tubes used around newly planted trees that are now ready to be pulled out and hauled back to the trailhead. It's honest, satisfying work that leaves the forest a little better than we found it.
For veterans and active-duty service members, getting outside is more than recreation. It's a chance to serve, reconnect with nature, build camaraderie, and share a common mission with people who get it.
No special experience required. Come ready to hike, work, and enjoy a day out with fellow service members and public lands supporters.
