Join MT BHA for a night of storytelling featuring Missoula-area hunters, anglers and recreationists, and their unique experiences in our irreplaceable Roadless Areas.
About 6.4 million acres in Montana, and almost 60 million nationally, are covered by the Roadless Rule, which was implemented in 2001 and is currently facing a proposal for rescission from the USDA. The rule places limits on the construction of new roads in key areas called Inventoried Roadless Areas, or IRAs. The rule protects wild places, water quality, wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities. And it’s essential to protecting Montanans’ ability to enjoy clean water, healthy fisheries and wild backcountry opportunities to hunt, fish, hike and backpack. At the same time, the rule is highly flexible. While it limits road building, it also allows the Forest Service to take steps to reduce wildfire risk and protect our homes and families.
Comments on a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) are due by Oct. 6.
