Join the Kentucky Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers on Monday, October 19th at Last Stop Brewing in Shelbyville for a Pint Night all about one of the most important—and sometimes overlooked—aspects of whitetail hunting: harvesting does.
Starting at 6 PM, KDFWR wildlife biologist, Tommy Apostolopoulos will help us dive into the role that doe harvest plays in managing healthy, balanced deer herds and maintaining quality habitat. We’ll talk about deer biology, herd dynamics, habitat carrying capacity, antler development and why taking a doe can be just as important to conservation as pursuing a trophy buck. Whether you’re a seasoned deer hunter or someone heading into the woods for their first season, this will be a great opportunity to learn more about responsible deer management and the important role hunters play in conservation. We’ll discuss why managing doe numbers is necessary in many areas, how hunters can help keep deer populations in balance with available habitat, and why filling a doe tag should be viewed as a meaningful part of being a responsible steward of Kentucky’s wildlife. Grab a beer, bring your questions, and join us for a night of conversation about whitetails, hunting, and doing our part to keep Kentucky’s deer herds healthy for generations to come.
This will be a casual, fun way to meet fellow hunters and anglers, swap stories and learn about BHA and our mission to conserve public lands and waters. BHA members advocate for public hunting and fishing and we work to maintain and improve access to places to hunt and fish. We also speak up for wildlife, guided by the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Finally, we believe in and advocate for fair chase in pursuit of fish and game.
