Join us for the Mountaineer Rifle Challenge on Saturday Aug 29 at the Beckley Gun Club.

The Mountaineer Rifle Challenge is a shooting match geared towards hunters and shooting scenarios common in West Virginia. This is not a long range rifle match.  Our longest shot will be 300yds.

Never shot a rifle match before?  No problem!  This is a great place to start

Don’t have a fancy match rifle?  No problem!  This match is designed around regular hunting rifles and ammo.

Don’t have a centerfire rifle?  No problem!  We have a rimfire class.

You don’t need to be a crack shot, but you do need safe rifle handling skills!

We have a full prize table ready from sponsors like Nightforce, Vortex, Tricer and Timney, but the real prize is the Mountaineer Rifleman status.  

Mountaineer Rifle Challenge Details:

  • Saturday August 29
  • Registration & Zero starts at 10am
  • Match starts at 11am
• Location:  Beckley Gun Club Hi-Power Rifle Range. 
  • Dropped pin for the Hi-Power Range
• What To Bring:
  • Hunting Rifle.  Please bring the rifle you hunt with.  You can shoot centerfire or rimfire, although we’d encourage you to shoot centerfire.  The rimfire shooters will be shooting at the same MOA sized targets as the centerfire class, but they are scaled down and placed at 50yds.  
  • Ammo.  The course of fire consists of 20 shots.  Please bring enough ammo to shoot the course of fire and extra to confirm your zero.
  • Backpack.  A pack will be required for the sitting supported stage and may be used for a front support during the prone supported stage.  Please bring the pack you hunt with.  If you don’t have one, we’ll have an extra for folks to use.
  • Accessories.  We encourage you to use the equipment you hunt with.  However for this match we will not be using tripods, shooting sticks, shooting bags, or any other form of rifle support not listed below:
    • Bipod   A bipod may be used during supported positions if desired and regularly carried.
    • Sling  A sling may be used for all stages.
  • Snacks, water, binoculars, hearing protection, eye protection, shooting mat and anything else you need to stay comfortable and safe.
  • Entry Fee.  $20 per shooter

We do have a limited number of loaner rifle setups available if needed, but they need to be coordinated via email with Logan Bockrath at westvirginia@backcountryhunters.org well ahead of the match.

The Mountaineer Rifle Challenge is a fundraiser for the West Virginia Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers.  Money raised here goes right back to fighting for wildlife and public hunting access in the Mountain State!
