Kremmling Fence Pull at Pumphouse Recreation Area (Presented by onX and RMEF)

Join Backcountry Hunters & Anglers in support of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's annual Kremmling Fence Pull — a multi-day volunteer project removing old, unused barbed wire fencing on BLM public land around the Pumphouse Recreation Area in Grand County, CO.

This stretch of river corridor serves as critical winter range for some of the largest deer, elk, and bighorn sheep herds in the state. Removing obsolete fencing opens up that habitat and makes these public lands work better for wildlife and the hunters and anglers who pursue them. This year's project moves to the far side of the river — accessible only by raft — with BLM river rangers ferrying volunteers across to the worksite. It's a unique twist on an already great project.

The workday wraps with an annual potluck dinner at camp — bring whatever you can and plan to swap some hunting stories with a great group of like-minded folks.

Want to Camp With Us?

Feel free to head up on Friday, July 10 and camp with the group the night before. We'll break camp the morning of July 12.

• Take 6th St. (CO 9 S) out of Kremmling
• Travel 2.3 miles to Co Hwy 1 – Trough Rd., then turn right
• Travel 12.3 miles to West Grand 1, then turn left
• Camping area ¼ mile on left

A Note on River Access

This year's worksite is on the far side of the river, accessible only by watercraft. BLM river rangers will ferry volunteers across by raft. For anyone not comfortable with the crossing, we'll make sure you're placed in a group working closer upstream with a shorter ferry. River flows are currently low but there are some mild rapids — safety will be managed with BLM staff on site.

What to Bring

• Leather work gloves and eye protection (both absolutely required)
• Sturdy boots, long pants, and a hat
• Backpack/daypack, water bottles, sunscreen, bug spray, and snacks
• Fence pliers if you have them
• Something to contribute to the potluck dinner
• Camping gear if you plan to stay Friday night

Open to all BHA members and public lands supporters. No experience necessary.
