Maine Chapter of BHA has partnered with Maine Department of Inland Fisheries to host two deer hunting workshops as part oof MDIFW’s Next Steps program. Next Steps workshops are for beginning hunters who have completed the Hunter Safety course and want to learn more about whitetail deer hunting. The workshops will be a combination discussion and field demonstration led by experienced hunters. • Session 1, 9:00am-Noon. In this session you'll learn about deer food and habitats, scouting and finding a spot to hunt, deer hunting techniques, how to choose a firearm or bow, other equipment you'll need, effective stand location and setup, and hunting regulations. Participants will be able to handle different rifles, bows, and crossbows used for deer hunting and learn how to make a safe and ethical shot. (There will be no live fire in this workshop.). • Session 2, 1:00-4:00. You'll learn how to ensure that your hard work results in high-quality meat for your table. You’ll learn about how to “read the shot,” tracking, proper tagging requirements, field dressing, getting your deer out of the woods, and basic skills needed for butchering.
