Canada Goose Banding with KY Fish & Wildlife - Shelbyville, Lexington, and Frankfort KY

Come join volunteers from the Kentucky Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers as we assist biologists and techs with Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources with banding Canada geese in the Commonwealth. Banding geese and other migratory birds is essential in studying migration habits, populations and overall health of the species. This fun, family friendly hands on conservation event is a great way to learn all about these incredible birds and give back to Kentucky’s wildlife.
We will be banding geese June 23rd-25th at three different locations. For each day, volunteers must wear long pants and sleeves. Also bring gloves, water and snacks. Waterproof shoes are encouraged but not required if you wish to handle the birds.
Tuesday, June 23rd, Shelbyville
We will start the day at 7am, meeting at Clear Creek Golf Center located at 717 Burks Branch Rd, Shelbyville, KY 40065. We will then move to two other locations. If you can’t stick around for the whole day, that’s perfectly fine. We hope to be done for the day some time between noon and 2pm.
Wednesday, June 24th, Lexington
Starting at 7am at Ramsey Farm located at 6915 Harrodsburg Rd, Nicholasville, KY 40356. We will then move to at least one other location. Again, If you can’t stick around for the whole day, that’s perfectly fine. We hope to be done for the day some time between noon and 2pm.
Thursday, June 25th, Frankfort
Starting at 8am at KDFWR Headquarters, located at 1 Sportsman’s Lane, Frankfort, KY 40601. We will meet in the parking lot outside of the little house on the left when you first pull in, before you reach the main admin building. Again, If you can’t stick around for the whole day, that’s perfectly fine. We hope to be done for the day some time between 10am and noon.
