Helping improve and maintain our public lands is at the core of what Kentucky Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is all about. That’s why on Saturday, August 15th, we’re rolling up our sleeves for a volunteer work day at the public bow range located on Taylorsville Lake Wildlife Management Area. As Kentucky’s most heavily used WMA, Taylorsville Lake provides incredible opportunities for public land deer hunting along with a wide variety of other outdoor recreation opportunities. Located beside the WMA office at 1584 Overlook Rd in Taylorsville, the public archery range features multiple static targets at varying distances, an elevated shooting platform for realistic practice scenarios, and a wooded 3D course that challenges archers with shots in real-world hunting terrain. During this work day, volunteers will help rotate and replace bag targets, maintain the grounds around the static range, and clear trails and shooting lanes throughout the 3D course. Be sure to bring work gloves, long pants, plenty of water, and of course your bow — because once the work is done, we’ll be putting the range to use! Afterward, we’ll fire up the grill for a cookout and spend the afternoon swapping hunting stories, talking bow setups and tactics, and connecting with fellow public land hunters who care deeply about conserving the places we all enjoy. Whether you’re a longtime BHA member or just curious about getting involved, this is a great opportunity to meet like-minded outdoorsmen and women while giving back to one of Kentucky’s premier public hunting areas. We hope to see you there!
