The BHA Alaska Chapter will be working with the Chugach National Forest staff and Kenai Peninsula Stream Watch volunteers to install the temporary fencing to protect the habitat along the Russian River near the confluence with the Kenai River. This project requires volunteers to hike along the Russian River installing rebar posts along the bank and attaching temporary woven fence. Individuals should bring their own waders, gloves, and eye protection. The USFS will provide ear protection and hardhats.
The USFS has made the pavilion site available for free for volunteers to camp if they want to drive down and spend the Friday night, May 29th or stay the night of the 30th after the project is completed. You will need to bring your own camping equipment and food. Water is available in the campground.
Event Leader: Jeff Knisley
When you arrive at the Russian River Campground located at Mile 54 on the Sterling Highway, tell campground attends at the entrance station you are volunteering to install the protective fencing. They will be able to provide a map that will show the location of the pavilion or the Pink Salmon Parking Lot where we will meet and have a safety briefing at 9:00 a.m. on the morning of the work day.
