The Armed Forces Initiative of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers connects the military community, conservation partners, and outdoor enthusiasts through events rooted in wild places and the traditions tied to them. Join Washington AFI as we host a booth at the Washington BHA Black Bear Bonanza — an all-ages, community-focused day built around black bears, conservation, and living responsibly in bear country.

This event brings together hunters, hikers, families, and neighbors alongside state and federal agency partners to share knowledge, reduce bear-human conflict, and celebrate the ecological and cultural role of Washington's black bears.

What It Is:

The Washington Black Bear Bonanza is a free, family-friendly educational event hosted by Washington BHA in partnership with the Wenatchee River Institute, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, the U.S. Forest Service, and the City of Leavenworth.

Whether you're a seasoned backcountry hunter, a weekend hiker, or a curious parent, this event has something for you.

Attendees can expect:

• Practical bear conflict-prevention education for living and recreating in bear country
• Insights on bear biology and population dynamics from local wildlife experts
• Live demonstrations and hands-on activities
• Youth activities designed for all ages
• Honest conversation about the conservation and cultural role of regulated bear hunting
• A chance to connect with neighbors, educators, and conservation partners
