BHA is teaming up with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) and Desert Wildlife Unlimited (DWU) for another sheep survey, this time in the Chuckwalla mountains! The survey will be conducted on Saturday, April 18th, with a potential additional survey the following day.

Volunteers will meet at Corn Spring Campground on the evening of Friday, 4/17 to discuss the plan for the next day's survey, go over safety instructions, and enjoy each other’s company. The next morning, teams will split off to hike to survey sites, and spend the day glassing for sheep. Then we will meet up back at Corn Spring Campground for a cookout. If we still have survey sites CDFW wants to get to the next day, willing volunteers can go out again on Sunday.

Folks should bring their own lunches, snacks, water, camping gear, binoculars/scopes, and hiking gear. The California Chapter of the Wild Sheep Foundation will be cooking up breakfast burritos on Saturday/Sunday mornings and we will have dinner and a campfire on Saturday night.  Hiking to survey sites will be semi-strenuous, and temperatures may get into the 90's, so please come with the appropriate gear and pace yourself.

We will have a pre-event meeting on Wednesday, April 15th via zoom.  During the pre-event meeting, we will go over directions on how to count and classify desert bighorn sheep in order to fill out the CDFW survey forms.
