Earlier this year, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers polled members and supporters on what questions senators should ask Director of Bureau of Land Management nominee Stevan Pearce. 

More than 3,700 public land owners responded, raising clear priorities around keeping public lands public, maintaining access for hunters and anglers, protecting habitat, and ensuring balanced land management.   

On Wednesday, February 25, senators will question Pearce during his confirmation hearing — an important step in determining who will oversee 245 million acres of public land. 

BHA invites you to watch the live-stream of the hearing alongside us. 

NOTE: Because the hearing includes three pending nominations, the timing of the BLM Director discussion may vary. 

Why This Matters

BHA’s earlier poll was intended to inform the confirmation process. This hearing is where those community-driven questions should surface. 

By showing up, our community signals that public lands owners are paying attention and expect thoughtful oversight from our senators. 

What to Expect

• Senators will question nominees about their background, past positions, and approach to leading the agency 

• The hearing record will include testimony and materials that help inform committee decision-making 

• Senators may submit additional written questions following the hearing 

• A committee vote on this nomination is expected approximately one week after the hearing, making this stage especially important 

The hearing will be webcast live on the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee website, and an archived video will be available afterward. Witness testimony will be accessible through the Committee website beginning at the start of the hearing.
