Pennsylvania AFI is Hosting the Annual Squirrel Hunt at Denton Hill State Park!

Why You Should Want to Attend:

The Armed Forces Initiative (AFI) of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA) connects members of the military community with the wild public lands and waters we all share. The Pennsylvania AFI chapter is hosting a weekend-long Squirrel Hunt at Denton Hill State Park, bringing together new and experienced hunters for a hands-on, small-game hunting experience.This event is designed to provide opportunities for learning, camaraderie, and community building through the pursuit of one of Pennsylvania’s most accessible and enjoyable game species — the gray squirrel. It’s a perfect introduction for beginners while offering experienced hunters a chance to run behind squirrel dogs and share their expertise.

What It Is:

The PA AFI Squirrel Hunt is a skill-building and mentorship weekend centered around ethical hunting, wildlife conservation, and the traditions that connect sportsmen and women to our public lands.

Attendees can expect to:

• Learn squirrel hunting tactics, safety, and marksmanship

• Hunt alongside experienced mentors and squirrel dog handlers

• Enjoy camp camaraderie and conservation discussions each evening

• Connect with other veterans, service members, and public-land advocates

This is a great opportunity to strengthen your hunting skills while supporting AFI’s mission of fostering conservation-minded veterans through outdoor experience and mentorship.

Who Can Attend:

• This event is open to all members of the military community to participate (Active duty, Reserves, National Guard, Veterans, and Gold Star families)

• This event is limited to 15 people maximum. Please fill out the application at the link in the RSVP confirmation email. Selected attendees will receive further information via email from the PA AFI liaison prior to the event.

You do not need to be a BHA member to attend (but we’d love it if you were!).

Additional Details:

• Lodging will be available on-site at Denton Hill cabins

• Please bring your own hunting gear, firearm, and valid PA hunting license

• Meals and snacks will be provided during the event

• There will be raffle prizes and giveaways from AFI partners
