We expect that temperatures will be in the high 100's. This being said, it is extremely important to know your limits. If you are not used to working in these temperatures, please do not volunteer. If you are used to 110 degree temperatures, then this project is for you. We will have EZ-Ups set up around the worksite to at least have some shade. Please remember to bring plenty of water.
We will be in the Piute Mountains that make up the Eastern border of the Mojave National Preserve and within the new Castle Mountain Monument. The road to the guzzler is not too intensive, but it is steep; for this reason, we are requiring 4 wheel drive vehicles for driving to the work site. If you do not have 4x4 you can drive in to the work site with a BHA member.
The work required for this rebuild is fairly straight-forward. Volunteers will need to dig a 165 foot span trench to lay 2 inch diameter PVC, and match the intake end of that span with the water table at the guzzler, while also maintaining a constant negative slope over to the tanks. A manifold between the tanks has already been re-built, and the raincatcher system's mat to tank pipe will be finished before the project date.
The closest gas and town is in Searchlight, Nevada.
