This location has it all- a large fishing pier, boat launch, and proximity to some of the best fishing on the East Coast!We’ve put together a Scavenger Hunt of the various species you’re likely to encounter in your time on the water. Catch (and document) as many as you can, in order to win some sweet prizes at the end of the night! Variety, not size, is the name of the game here, so bring all your tackle and strategies. Well send scorecards out to registered attendees in advance and will have them available for anyone coming in Saturday morning. Grills will be available for everyone to cook up some of their catch and well announce winners and award prizes. We’ve secured a block of group tent camping sites at Kiptopeke State Park, on the lower end of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Participants can camp or just come for the day.Who can participate: Anyone! Members, non-members, potential members. All are welcome.Options for participation:1) Come Saturday to take part in the Scavenger Hunt and to join us for the Potluck. Tickets available below. We will email Scorecards the week prior to the event and printed copies will be available from BHA leaders at the park. 2) Camp with the group: We’ve reserved 10 contiguous tent-only campsites for BHA members for Friday and Saturday night. These are available first-come, first-served using the link below to reserve and pay. 3) Camp elsewhere: Other sites for both tents and RVs are currently available at the park as are cabins and yurts. Reserve on your own through Kiptopeke State Park here: https://reservevaparks.com/Fishing and Watercraft:No matter how you roll, there is good fishing at Kiptopeke. The state park features a large, well kept boat launch with parking for trailers. There is a small fee to launch. You may also bring a kayak or stand up paddleboard. For those without a vessel, the park has a large fishing pier with a fish cleaning station and lights. There is a nominal fee for a pier license. See the park website for launch and pier fees. The concrete ships are the main attraction for fishing around the park- sunk as a breakwater for the ferry landing after WWII, they act as an artificial reef and hold plenty of fish. Just a few miles away is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, with plenty of fishable structure. Wise Point is a popular fishing destination as well, or you could make use of one of the dozen or so other county-owned public boat launches in the area, either bayside or seaside.Licenses and Regs: Please familiarize yourself with the license requirements as well as the recreational fishing regulationsWaiver: All participants will be asked to sign a waiver the day of the event.Nearby Amenities and Services:The park is a short drive from Cape Charles, VA, with hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, a public beach, etc. Oceans East is the tackle shop in the area- it’s well appointed and will have anything and everything you will need.
