event_description: Join the University of Montana and Montana State BHA for the inaugural Brawl of the Wild....on ice! UM might have won the football game, but this is the brawl that really matters. There will be multiple on-ice competitions with bragging rights on the line. Can MSU redeem themselves?Brawl starts at 9:00am sharp on Saturday February, 26th at Canyon Ferry Lake Silos Recreation Area (46.413, -111.576). Look for the BHA banners and Griz/Cat flags on the ice.Bring your own food/snacks either for yourself or to share. There will be Camp Chef grills available to cook on.Bring your own ice fishing gear/supplies. If you are new to the ice, here is a basic list of items youll need that can be purchased at any local sporting good store: Ice fishing rod (if youre looking to save money, you can make a spin rod work!)Jigs (like these)Worms and/or maggotsChairCold weather clothing - winter boots, gloves, hats, hand/foot warmersDont forget your fishing license if you have it (you can get one here). Remember that fishing license season ends at the end of February, so if you are purchasing one for this event, buy the 2-day license! If you are a first time angler or out-of-state student, a group fishing license will be available to you so you dont need to purchase one.During our event, well be drawing awareness for our public waters and getting students to take action on two important pieces of legislation. While were fishing a reservoir created by a dam, our organization and young leaders value our wild and undammed river first and foremost. Thats why were getting students to voice their support for the Montana Headwaters Legacy Act which would designate 385.4 miles of Montanas rivers as Wild & Scenic, nearly doubling the states protected river segments. As avid anglers, we also care about the health of our rivers, which is why were also advocating for the Good Samaritan Remediation of Abandoned Hardrock Mines Act which would make it easier for entities to help clean up abandoned mines. For questions, contact your respective club:umontanaBHAbackcountryhunters.orgmontanastateBHAbackcountryhunters.orgRSVP below and see you at the brawl!
