USFWS will invest in restoration and fence removal, inventory and modification work in greater sage grouse habitat in northwest Colorado

WASHINGTON – In a new partnership between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, Sage Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (Sage BIL) funds will be invested in greater sage grouse habitat restoration work in northwestern Colorado, with BHA as the facilitator.

The USFWS grant will significantly bolster BHA’s ongoing conservation efforts by supporting BHA-led wet meadow restoration and fence removal, modification, and inventory projects in critical areas of habitat. Wet meadow restoration in partnership with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, will occur in core sage grouse range, by extension improving habitat for a variety of species. Fence work will be focused in areas identified by local biologists as having known or potential impacts on greater sage grouse.

BHA remains committed to habitat conservation and restoration efforts that benefit wildlife. The Sage BIL funds are a critical addition to organizational resources aimed at elevating habitat stewardship. The grant will empower BHA and its dedicated members to carry out essential tasks in greater sage grouse habitat, enabling the conservation and enhancement of public lands and waters for the benefit of all.

“As hunters and anglers, we understand the importance of conserving our public lands and waters,” said BHA Habitat Stewardship Coordinator Britt Parker. “This grant allows us to take concrete steps to protect the habitats that sustain the wildlife we cherish.

“We are immensely grateful for the Sage BIL Grant and are excited to put these funds to work for the benefit of greater sage grouse habitat,” Parker continued, “and we look forward to this ongoing partnership between BHA and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which demonstrates the power of collaboration in sustaining our natural heritage. BHA sincerely appreciates the trust and support of the USFWS, which enables us to continue making a meaningful impact on the conservation landscape.”
