Friend —
I hope you all have plans to recharge your batteries over Canada Day or the Fourth of July holiday. Shoot off some fireworks, eat some wild game, and come back loaded for bear!
United States House of Representatives Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer has announced that we will have a vote in late July on the companion version of the Great American Outdoors Act. You all have one more opportunity to make history, do what they should have done back in 1964 and fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund at $900 million per year in perpetuity — and, at the same time, make much-needed investments in our public land agencies.
I hope you all savored the sweet victory of the passage of GAOA, which made it out of the Senate with a 73-25 vote. You made this happen! Emails, letters to the editor, opinion editorials, visits to D.C. and, last week, hundreds of phone calls to your elected officials! Ever since the Land and Water Conservation Fund sunset in the fall of 2018 you have been more tenacious than a bird dog on fresh scent. For that I am so very grateful…but not surprised. You all are doers!
Your voice has gotten us this far. It's time to push it across the finish line! Take action today! Contact your representatives via our action alert or call them directly to voice your support for the Great American Outdoors Act.
Onward and upward,
Land Tawney President and CEO Backcountry Hunters & Anglers
