Join NY BHA, NYC TU, and NY HOC for the Amawalk / Muscoot River Arbor Day Tree Planting Saturday, April 27 from 10:30am to 2pm We are excited to return to the Amawalk/Muscoot River to plant another 200-plus trees on the banks above the Wood St. bridge access point. Following the planting, there will be plenty of opportunity to fish what is proving to be a great wild-trout stream. We have had a great turnout the previous years. We also plan to build a deer enclosure to protect the trees we plant during the day until they are grown enough to sustain deer browse pressure.
What to bring: work clothes, gloves and sturdy boots, bug spray (there are ticks), sunscreen (we can be hopeful), lunch, and any tools you think might be helpful. We have several shovels and pry bars but it’s always good to have a few more. Note that you’ll need a NYC DEP Access Permit (free available from NYC DEP).
Directions: we will be meeting at the parking areas by Wood Street Bridge. Take Route 35 West out of Katonah to Wood Street, take a left (south) on Wood Street (just past a large arboretum on left) until you get to the parking areas before Wood Street Bridge. If you cross the (only) bridge, you've just passed us and gone too far.
Carpooling: please let ([email protected]) know if you need a ride or can drive others and we will try to coordinate rides. Alternatively, the Metro North from Grand Central (9:09am) is a 71-minute trip to Katonah and would arrive just after 10:20 with enough time for the 10 minute Uber ride to the project site (~$15).
