The U.S. Forest Service is hosting a Chainsaw Certification Course for BHA members and our partners. This is a federally mandated course in the skills and regulations of Chainsaw operations (Many states also mandate this course) in order to perform stewardship work on Federal public lands. This will be a train-the-trainer course. After completing this USFS Certification, BHA members will be certified to train other members and lead stewardship projects in which chainsaws will be used.
The Developing Thinking Sawyers course is a nationally recognized course which will include some pre-event work, a morning classroom session, and a field skills test and chainsaw rating for students in the afternoon.
We will have to provide some of our own Personal Protective Equipment PPE and saws, though some equipment will be available. Prior chainsaw knowledge is not required, but strongly preferred in order to obtain full certification.
