event_description: New England Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers will be partnering with Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife for spring clean-up at Swan Island WMA. Swan Island is located in the Kennebec River at the head of Merrymeeting Bay, with water access only from state launch in Richmond. The property has 7 miles of trails that need to be cleared for season along with other seasonal tasks. Swan Island has been used for a New England Chapter Rendezvous and MIFW uses it for hunter skills workshops and mentored hunting opportunities.Participants should come prepared with gloves, protective glasses, water, snacks and other clothing appropriate work and the weather. Personal hand tools are welcome, but no power equipment. The department will also have hand tools available for use.Ferry for the short trip to the island will depart promptly at 9 am. Return trips back from the island will be at noon and 3 PM. Lunch will be provided for volunteers. Camping is an option for those who have watercraft to access the island, please email mainebackcountryhunters.org if intend to camp.
