event_description: Help Us Protect Sandia Mountain Archery Hunts Several years ago some Sandia Foothills residents tried to rally to end this hunt. Since that time, NM BHA and our conservation partners have spoken with thousands of individuals to share with them the long history of bowhunting in the Sandias, why hunting can be a rewarding way for some to stock up on free range protein, and how hunters and the public can be mindful of each others presence to avoid conflicts. We are seeking knowledgeable and friendly hunters to man several key trailheads in the ABQ foothills alongside NMDGF conservation officers from 7 am - 11 am on November 19 and 20 during the youth bowhunt. Volunteers and NMDGF Conservation Officers will work together to share information and answer questions for anyone interested in chatting with us! We plan on having snacks and coffee available for volunteers. Please join us for all or part of the day. Our efforts will be concentrated at the Pino/Elena Gallegos, Bear Canyon and Embudo trailheads in the Sandia foothills on Saturday, November 19 & 20, where a majority of the hunter/public interaction occurs. Please RSVP on this page no later than Wednesday, November 16 to participate! NM BHA Vice President and event leader Mike Farrington will reach out to you to coordinate shifts and trailhead assignments based on your availability. Kids are welcome to participate although it will likely be chilly in the morning. Trail LocationsPino Trailhead/ Elena Gallegos Open Space https://goo.gl/maps/fy7ze4nwiLhv3vbW6Bear Canyon Trailhead/ Michael Emery Trailhttps://goo.gl/maps/taTP6FDg7Ukbrakh8Embudo Trailheadhttps://goo.gl/maps/jxAGhkubYcQEwhK29
