Join us on Friday, September 21st to help clean up the newest addition to the Fish Creek Wildlife Management Area west of Missoula. Montana FWP is purchasing an inholding that will add 276 acres of public land in prime fish and wildlife habitat, but before the streamside property is open to the public it needs some TLC. That’s where BHA members come in.
This event will be in recognition of both Public Lands Month and Saturday, September 22nd - Public Lands Day. It’s a great way to give back and make a real difference on our public lands. With enough help, one half day of service will clear the last hurdle of opening new access for hunters and anglers.
Previously an old logging camp and more recently a private residence, human garbage left on the property needs to be removed to return the area to a more natural state, for the benefit of wildlife and people both. The land is key winter range for whitetail deer, moose, elk and mule deer and includes 1.2 miles of the main stem of Fish Creek, representing some of the best remaining habitat for bull trout and Westslope cutthroat trout in the Middle Clark Fork. The acquisition also fills a crucial gap in public ownership that provides for connectivity and wildlife movement over a broader landscape. The Montana Chapter has been supportive of this expansion since the beginning, and we’re excited to help put the finishing touches on the deal.
Please let us know if you can join us by RSVP'ing below. Invite fellow public land owners on Facebook here. Lunch and work gloves will be provided by BHA.
