National Policy Update

LWCF and Maintenance Backlog Package

This month, Sens. Gardner (R-CO), Daines (R-MT), Manchin (D-WV), Warner (D-VA) and many others introduced the Great American Outdoors Act (S. 3422). S.3422 provides full and dedicated funding to the Land and Water Conservation Fund and funds the maintenance backlogs of our public land management agencies at $1.9 billion annually for five years. The National Park Service will receive 70 percent and the Forest Service 15 percent, while the Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Indian Education will all receive 5 percent of this sum.

Originally the legislation was expected to only provide funding to help address the National Park Service $12 billion maintenance backlog. But because of your advocacy efforts, senators listened and introduced S.3422 with expanded funding to address the maintenance backlogs of public land management agencies critical to our hunting and fishing experiences. Thank you for your strong efforts in making this happen!
