Trout Unlimited and the Alaska Chapter of  Backcountry Hunters & Anglers recently hosted an engaging Pint Night at Forbidden Peak Brewery in Juneau, featuring fisheries ecologist Michael Courtney from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The event brought together anglers, conservationists, and public lands advocates for an evening of science, conversation, and community.

Michael shared insights from ongoing research on steelhead kelts in Southeast Alaska, exploring where steelhead travel in the ocean, how they behave after spawning, and why this life stage is essential for maintaining resilient steelhead populations. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the connections between healthy rivers, connected marine systems, and sustainable angling access—key principles for both Trout Unlimited and Alaska BHA.

The evening offered a relaxed setting to enjoy a beer, connect with fellow advocates, and dig into the science that underpins effective stewardship of Alaska’s wild fish and waters. The community in attendance left with new knowledge, new connections, and renewed enthusiasm for supporting wild fish and public lands in Alaska.
