The Fight for Stream Access: Hunters, Anglers, and Boaters Unite for Colorado’s Waters

Author: Bryan Jones
“Colorado’s magnificent rivers and streams are a public trust to be enjoyed by all. Our message to state officials: let our people float and fish.” - Colorado Chapter Co-Chair, Don Holmstrom Colorado’s rivers and streams are at the heart of its wild, public lands. Whether you’re casting a line for trout, floating down a river in a drift boat, or simply enjoying the solitude of the backcountry, water access is fundamental to the outdoor experience. RECAP: Vermont Northwoods Story Slam at Johnson Woolen Mills

Nothing defines hunting the big woods like wool pants and coats in the classic buffalo check pattern.  Johnson Woolen Mills has been at it in Vermont for nearly two centuries.  They hosted us for the Vermont Northwoods Story Slam at their store Saturday, August 31st and it was a great time! They graciously donated over $1000 worth of goods for raffle and give-aways.  The main prizes were a "Hunting package" with pants, shirt, crusher hat, orange vest, gloves, socks, light weight jacket and ...

Howe Ranch Fence Removal

Author: Briant Wiles
Howe Ranch Fence Removal By Briant Wiles   With the elk bugling and the temps starting to come down in the mountains of central Colorado my mind drifts back to the heat of the summer and one of my most memorable fence pulls this year. Keep Public Lands Out of Utah's Greedy Hands

Author: Anonym
In the history of ill-advised plans and underhanded schemes to squander the public lands legacy shared by all Americans, Utah officials may have just eclipsed the rest of the bunch. In August, the State of Utah filed a lawsuit with the United States Supreme Court to wrestle 18.5 million acres of public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) away from its rightful owners, the American people. If transferred from federal jurisdiction to Utah, the state’s own track record shows ...

BHA Volunteers Expand Elk Habitat on BLM lands in Northwest CA

Author: Anonym
On a still morning in Humboldt County, BHA volunteers gathered at the Lacks Creek Management Area for the second year in a row to expand elk and deer habitat by reducing encroaching conifers on coastal prairies. When we arrived at the Beaver Ridge Prairie on Saturday morning, volunteers spread out across the hilly prairie as a couple blacktail bucks looked on with curiosity. Hand saws and hatchets made quick work of the encroaching douglas firs as thick stands fell  to reveal bunch grasses ...

BHA Podcast & Blast, Ep. #188: Hunting on the Ballot with Gaspar Perricone

From ballot initiatives that mandate wolf-reintroduction or banning the hunting of mountain lions and bobcats, wildlife management decisions are increasingly being made by voters instead of biologists. It is called “ballot biology” and it is a result of some highly motivated anti-hunting and animal rights groups reaching out to a ballooning demographic of non-hunting, often urban, voters who may be well-intentioned (“protect mountain lions and bobcats from being slaughtered!”) but who ...
