OPINION: Approach to sage grouse conservation hurts Montana’s people, economy

By Justin Schaaf - February 4, 2018 - Originally published in the Ravalli Republic.  Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke long has long claimed to be a “Roosevelt Republican.” He has said time and again that he will stand with the West and not allow the overreaching arm of Washington, D.C., to hold us within its grasp. But his recent actions have reflected a different approach. In 2015, a diverse group of stakeholders including governors, resource managers, ranchers, farmers, sportsmen and ...

Ravalli County Commissioners need to hear from you

Author: Kevin Farron
At the end of 2017, Senator Steve Daines quietly introduced legislation that would remove protections from nearly a half-million acres of public lands in Montana. But now, the public finally has an opportunity to weigh in. On Wednesday, the Ravalli County Commission is holding a public meeting ...

Action Alert - Wisconsin Water Access

As you may have already heard, there is currently a bill proposed that would limit public use of navigable waterways.  AB 599/ SB 506 prevents the DNR from declaring a stream a navigable waterway if a private landowner has dammed that stream. Author: Anonym
Click... “you’ve gotta be kidding me!?”, Adam whispered from behind his binoculars, trying to contain his laughter. “Shut up!” I recanted, as I chambered the round that I had forgotten before the first trigger pull. Being raised in Minnesota, and having private land available to my family, we rarely used public land. Public land hunting conjured up images of pulling up your binoculars and being met in your gaze by the barrel of a rifle as someone looked at you through their scope. It ...
